Tsoukalades is a hilltop village on the North West of Lefkas, with panoramic
views across the Ionian Sea
to the mountains of the Epiros Coast and the islands
of Paxos and Anti Paxos in the far distance. Local Area Map - The Gecko

In bygone days the villagers made their living from the olive groves that still surround the settlement. Nowadays, there are tavernas and a couple of minimarkets to buy supplies just a few minutes walk down the hill from the Gecko. Tsoukalades is ideally placed to explore the long sandy beaches of the north and west coasts. Within a ten minute drive of the village, you can reach the beaches of Ai Giannis and Milos to the North, where the afternoon display from the windsurfers and kitesurfers is well worth stopping to watch. To the south is the blue flagged beach of Pefkoulia, a long stretch of sand with plenty of room for all.

Around ten minutes south of Tsoukalades by car is the pretty seafront village
of Agios Nikitas, with a cobbled street leading down to the beach. More restaurants
can be found here, as well as a couple of great bars, built into the rocks overhanging
the sea.
Ten minutes in the other direction will bring you to Lefkas town, the capital
of the island. Steeped in history, clues to the many occupiers of the island
can be found in the architecture, including a Venetian fort next to the causeway
connecting the island to the mainland.
